We are humbled and grateful to share this wisdom.
Our role is to synthesize the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda in the modern world — through the prism of our own lived experiences — to make it accessible and supportive for you. It is with great reverence that we do so.
Ayurveda is the healing science of India, with roots dating back over 5,000 years. It is a modality that has experienced various forms of oppression throughout its history — including being forced underground during the colonialism of the British Raj. We are grateful for the people and systems that kept this wisdom alive throughout the ages, and we are humbled to be a part of the lineage carrying it forward. We honor and appreciate our teacher, Alakananda Ma, and her teacher Dr. Vasant Lad, as well as the other contemporary practitioners who have informed our work, namely Maya Tiwari and Acharya Shunya.
We are committed to an ongoing process of reflection and integration of what it means to be white women holding a lineage of wisdom that has been historically oppressed. Self-inquiry and a willingness to be uncomfortable are vital as we explore how to respect and uphold this wisdom, rather than appropriate it. Along the way, we are committed to deepening our study of this vast science and our celebration of Vedic culture. We strive to integrate the varied practices for mind, body and spirit that the wisdom offers into our personal lives. With reverence for the holism of Ayurveda and its roots, we are committed to the ongoing process of maintaining cultural appreciation, and disrupting cultural appropriation, despite the discomforts that may arise.
